Over the last 17 years or so, West Marine took
over
or put out of business most small marine chandleries. Then since going
public they used their increased funds to buy out their main
competitors E&B Marine, and most recently (2004) Boat/US. They are
focused on selling mainly their own brand of boat care products or
those from companies who are too big to ignore.
Consequently, since 1998, they have essentially stopped the
Manager Buy program that was so successful in selling our products from
1995. From 2001 some of our products (as an Inflatable Boat
Restoration kit) were sold in all Boat/US stores as introduced by Severn Boats, the
manufacturer of their inflatable boats. Now that
West Marine have taken over Boat/US, our products (and Boat/US
inflatables) are no longer available there.
We decided that the only way to be
profitable in this monopolistic environment is to:
1.
Sell by mail order via the internet.
2. To sell via authorized detailers who are
very knowledgeable or
through
companies that market related products such as plastics, coated fabrics
or fiberglass resins. In each case, familiarity with use of
our products is essential - similarly with informal enthusiast-based
"clubs" of end users.
3. Increase support for those few family-owned
retail outlets who have
successfully sold our product for over ten years.
4. Expand to eventual TV promotion and
infomercials.
5. International distribution as a means for
insulating us from
domestic seasonal and economic market fluctuations.
6. Set up our own detailing service for boats,
autos, hotel patio
furniture etc and franchise similar set ups throughout the USA, with
ISLAND GIRL® providing all promotional material and products as a
"kit".

7. Foster and direct the enthusiasm of Online Sellers
of SEA GLOW™ through E-Bay or through their own websites.
Unauthorised online resellers will be offered the chance to join us or
we will close them down through complaint to E-Bay, since they are
using our product (in some cases adulterated) and our name without
proper labeling, instructions or liability.
